Cruise Roadshow

This March, representatives from the States of Guernsey attended a series of high‑level meetings with major global cruise lines to further understand industry priorities and Guernsey’s position within future itinerary planning. Across discussions with Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas, Oceania Cruise Lines, Carnival Cruise Lines, Princess Cruises, Virgin Voyages, Holland America Line and Seabourn, cruise brands acknowledged Guernsey’s strengths as a destination while also highlighting the significant operational challenges associated with weather‑dependent tendering.

The discussions provided valuable insight into the factors influencing port selection, passenger operations and long‑term planning across the sector.

The States of Guernsey, VisitGuernsey, Cruise Guernsey and Guernsey Harbours prepared a joint presentation to showcase the destination and outline the breadth of visitor experiences available. In previous years, Guernsey representatives have attended the Seatrade Global event, which continues to play an important role in maintaining relationships and gaining wider market intelligence. This year’s approach enabled more in‑depth conversations earlier in the planning cycle, helping to build a clearer understanding of operational requirements and future deployment considerations for Northern European itineraries.

Cruise operators outlined the importance of consistent and reliable passenger transfer arrangements when evaluating ports of call. Several lines noted that adverse weather can affect tender operations in open anchorages, and therefore infrastructure that enhances the resilience of ship‑to‑shore transfers is an important consideration.

During discussions, cruise lines shared updates on itinerary trends, including demand for shorter European sailings and ongoing adjustments to Round Britain deployment. Some operators noted that changes to other ports within existing itineraries may create opportunities for alternative destinations in the future, depending on operational feasibility and guest experience considerations. Repositioning voyages were also highlighted as an area where Guernsey may have potential, subject to scheduling, navigational and operational assessments.

Work continues, with these new insights, to engage with industry partners. These discussions form part of ongoing efforts to ensure Guernsey remains competitive and operationally aligned with evolving cruise sector requirements.
