Brittany Ferries has cancelled a number of sailings and added extra St Malo services ahead of Storm Austen, which is forecast to bring gale force winds and very rough seas to the English Channel in the run-up to half term.
With winds of up to 75mph and waves of more than 6.5m predicted, the company has cancelled its high-speed sailings to and from Guernsey today (Wednesday) and Friday, along with Thursday evening’s conventional sailing from Portsmouth.
Extra St Malo sailings will operate on Thursday 22 and Tuesday 27 October. Freight customers are being accommodated on alternative sailings so that essential supplies to Guernsey are maintained.
Brittany Ferries apologises for the disruption. With severe weather forecast ahead of half term, the company is contacting passengers and freight customers directly and in advance to warn them of the risk of disruption. Affected passengers are being transferred to alternative sailings, subject to availability. Brittany Ferries recognises that this is an important time of year for many families and is doing everything it can to keep people travelling.
The company is monitoring weather conditions closely and will update passengers and freight customers on any further changes to services.
