Celebrity chef Ching-He Huang MBE returns to Guernsey next month to raise awareness and funds for Guernsey Community Savings by hosting a gala dinner at China Red and, for the first time, a cooking demonstration open to all islanders.
Both take place on Saturday 24 October and are flagship events in VisitGuernsey's The Big Eat festival.
At the cooking demonstration, which begins at 12.30 in the Town Church, Ching will prepare two or three delicious wok dishes, showing how simple, affordable ingredients can be transformed into quick, healthy and flavour-packed meals at home.
She will also sign copies of her latest cookery books with the proceeds going to GCS.
Attendance is free, but advance booking on Eventbrite (search ‘Ching cooking demo’) is recommended to guarantee a place.
In previous years Ching has held cooking demonstrations for catering students at the College of Further Education, for crew members at Grow and for prisoners at Guernsey Prison.

Ching-He Huang is an International Emmy nominated, award winning TV chef and cookery author who has been championing, popularising and demystifying Chinese cuisine since 2003. She received an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2020 list for services to the culinary arts.
She has published 11 best-selling cookbooks to date, with the latest ‘Wok For Less’ focusing on traditional, clever ways to reduce costs, without scrimping on taste.
While she is in Guernsey, Ching will also visit the Guille-Allès library to make a donation of cookery books, a combination of her own best-sellers and books by other authors.
Since opening its doors in 2020, Guernsey Community Savings has supported more than 200 people in setting up bank accounts and provided budgeting advice and financial education to hundreds more.
Day-to-day operations are now mainly funded by Guernsey’s clearing banks, following an agreement reached last year, but the charity still relies on fundraising to reach out to more people who have been financially excluded.
