If traffic needs to be stopped for filming purposes, pre-approval is required from the Police. If filming is conducted on private property, permission must be obtained from the landowner.
To film in St Peter Port Harbour, permission will be required from the Harbour Master or the Assistant Harbour Master. Restricted areas are clearly marked, but most areas are accessible to the public. The Harbour Master can also provide information about times and tides, as well as when leisure boats and yachts may be arriving.
Please be aware that there are restrictions and guidelines regarding drone filming. A permit from the DCA is required for drones, and this can be applied for by emailing drones@cidca.aero. Alternatively, locally qualified drone pilots can provide assistance.
Here's our advice for getting the best out of your time filming on the Islands of Guernsey, as well as for protecting your equipment.
Audio Protection
Guernsey is windy! Always use an external microphone with a dedicated wind muff or 'dead cat' to capture clean ambient audio and minimise wind noise.
Avoid Condensation
When moving your gear from a cold to warm environment, keep your camera in its bag for 20 minutes to let it acclimate and prevent internal fogging.
Check the Tides
Tides dramatically change the landscape of the beaches and bays. Consult the local tide tables when scouting a coastal location.
Filters
Use a polarising filter on sunny days to cut glare on the sea, deepen the blues and make the water look more vibrant and clear.
