Aurigny brings biggest price drop to Jersey–Guernsey flights in years

Aurigny has made significant changes to its inter-island flight pricing between Guernsey and Jersey today, 19 January, with new fares starting at £49.99 one-way, reducing the cost of a return flight to just £99.98 return.

When the route was previously operated by a solely commercially-focused airline, typical return fares were often around £180, meaning that Aurigny’s pricing strategy can offer up to a 45% saving on air travel between the two islands.

As a publicly owned airline with a broader social and economic remit, Aurigny remains committed to being a force for good in the Channel Islands, focused on keeping fares as affordable as possible whilst responsibly optimising towards breakeven, rather than simply maximising profits. The evidence indicates significantly lower fares for island communities with Aurigny’s renewed presence on the route.

Aurigny sees an opportunity to grow a route that carried 115,000 passengers in 2019 but just 64,000 in 2025. While its current bookings are in line with recent years, the airline believes a revised pricing and marketing strategy and close collaboration with island partners - including the ports, tourism bodies and hospitality sector - can boost demand. Aurigny will proactively work with partners across the Channel Islands to grasp the opportunity and create a new dynamism on routes connecting our communities.

The changes are expected to renew interest in multi-centre Channel Island holidays and strengthen social, family and business bonds between Jersey and Guernsey. Aurigny remains committed to working with all stakeholders to enhance inter-island connectivity for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.

Philip Saunders, Chief Commercial Officer of Aurigny, said:

“It is important to recognise that Aurigny’s focus on the community’s interests means it operates differently from a typical privately-owned airline. Aurigny has a broader remit than simply maximising profits - our focus is on supporting the long-term social and economic well-being of our islands. The route between Guernsey and Jersey is all about connectivity, affordability and keeping our communities close; and that requires a collaborative approach with all our partners to ensure the long-term sustainability of our inter-island links.”

The new “Light” fare includes the largest complimentary cabin bag allowance of any regional airline in the British Isles – great for both business and short breaks. The airline also has an offer running until Friday, 23 January, bringing the price of a return trip to just £89.98.
