Inspired by the local arts scene, Guernsey Arts are proud to be launching a new initiative designed to get locals and visitors engaging with the environment entitled “Art en Plein Air”.
Working with accredited tour guide Dave Bartram, the community and visitors are invited to come along and enjoy a unique (and tasty) afternoon of art, history and creativity. Combining a guided walk with a hands-on workshop, the experience offers participants the opportunity to discover the locations and views that have inspired generations of artists, before creating their own artwork in one of the island's most beautiful garden settings, Candie Gardens.
As the guided walk winds its way through the streets of St Peter Port, we’ll be uncovering the landscapes, architecture and viewpoints that have featured in notable works of local art. Along the way, attendees will learn about paintings created in these locations and explore sites connected to prominent artists including Brenda Munson, J.M.W. Turner and a few present day artists too!
The tour concludes at the picturesque Candie Gardens, where participants will enjoy a light refreshment featuring traditional Guernsey gâche before taking part in a relaxing workshop featuring the Candie Garden Bandstand led by local artist and Guernsey Arts team member Louise Le Pelley. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding gardens and historic buildings, Louise will guide participants through the process of creating their own artwork. The workshop is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced artists, with all materials supplied.
