Guernsey introduces ETA for French visitors from 23 April 2026

Press release to French media - 1 April 2026

Guernsey, Channel Islands – As of 23 April 2026, the Islands of Guernsey will implement a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for non-visa-required nationals travelling directly from outside the Common Travel Area (United Kingdom, Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands).

Applications can be made from 9 April 2026 via the official dedicated platform.

This digital authorisation, already in force for entry into the United Kingdom, will be required for all modes of access (air, sea, private aviation and yachting). Valid for two years (or until the passport expires), it allows multiple stays of short duration (up to six months). Its cost is currently set at £16, with an increase to £20 expected soon.

Note for the French market:

  • The scheme does not impact the French Identity Card Scheme, which allows French nationals to travel to Guernsey for a day trip with their identity card, on approved maritime routes.

  • Affected travellers include leisure visitors and some short-term workers (less than six months). On the other hand, British and Irish citizens, as well as certain categories of residents or holders of specific statuses, are not concerned.

This measure aims to strengthen border control while aligning with changes in UK entry policies.
